Home & Flexible Working - The impact on business security

The Impact of Home & Flexible Working on Business Security

With Covid-19, we have all had to adapt, and quickly. Businesses have had to adapt even quicker than in any other year. From social distancing to singing happy birthday while washing our hands, wearing face masks and continually being in lockdown, this has been an everchanging and challenging 12 months. But one change that looks like it could continue, after this is over, is an increase in home and flexible working.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), from April 2020, 49.2% of the UK’s workers became home-based. We certainly know what this is like. Our office staff are on a rota base system where they at least work 2/3 days a week at home minimalizing contact at the office.

Unfortunately, as any security guard will tell you, working from home is not an option. Remote and flexible working not only reduces office costs but with countless news stories advising that staff retention is on the up, morale is higher than ever and employees have found an improvement in work/life balance.

With many business owners seeing the benefits, some may choose to take a more flexible approach to work in the offices. With the office environment ever-changing, it means that business security will need to adapt and evolve for every business.

With staff rotating in and out of work, from our experience, it can become harder to allocate and keep track of keyholders in your business. Employees who may be responsible for locking up, or on call to respond to alarms out of hours may change. It may also mean that hours of work might be different, for example, to allow rota-based working to facilitate social distancing. So, the office might have to open up earlier and be closed later.

Appointing a keyholding company, like PatrolGuard, could be a much needed and cost-effective alternative. Rather than relying on employees whose working patterns may have changed or answering alarms when the office is closed, we can hold a set of keys on your behalf. We can perform locks and unlocks, mobile patrols and keyholding and alarm response. We have been doing this for all our customers during the pandemic all across Coventry and Warwickshire. We cover Stratford Upon Avon, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Coventry and everything else in between.

Most of our customer’s take up our keyholding and alarm response service when handing over their keys to us, to provide an out of hours response to alarm activations. Our average response time is just 10 minutes. PatrolGuard can help to protect your business, from £1 per day. During this time, we have had an increase in requests for locking and unlocking businesses especially if the employee is on their own.

Do you respond to fire alarms? The answer is ‘yes’! As part of a key holding and response service, we’ll attend and deal with a fire alarm system activation. Do you respond to CCTV activations? Of course! If you want this set-up simply ask. We’ll attend and deal with CCTV activations as part of a key holding and response. What happens if my business is broken into? If we attend your business property and find that it has been broken into, we’ll contact the Police right away and see what we need to do to cure the site. If required, we’ll contact you and remain on site until you arrive or if you are happy with our suggested action, we will start putting it in place. Do you supply an incident report following an attendance? Yes, we will leave a written report of the activation to advise what happened, what we did on site, how we resolved it and if there is any further action to be taken. Can you randomly visit to check on my property during night-time hours or at the weekend to make sure it’s secure? Yes, we can arrange for that to happen. One of our guards can attend your property during night-time hours or at the weekend to act as a visible deterrent to anyone watching your property. We can do this as many times as you need and pay per visit. We can do external or internal patrols. Check windows, doors and do our foot patrols as many times as you like. It really depends on what your requirement are. Ready to receive your free, no-obligation quote? Visit our ‘ Quote Request ’ page or call us on 01926 760 000. We look forward to hearing from you!
